MENTERI MALAYSIA KETURUNAN SULU LIHAT SAHAJA ?
The New York Times : Malaysia Detains 79 in Fight Against Filipinos Posted: 10 Mar 2013 06:56 PM PDT Ministry Of Defence Of Malaysia, via European Pressphoto Agency By FLOYD WHALEYPublished: March 9, 2013 MANILA — Malaysian authorities announced Saturday that they had detained 79 people they suspected of being sympathizers of Filipino fighters who recently landed on Borneo in an attempt to re-establish a historic claim to part of the island. The government also raised the death toll in recent fighting between Malaysian forces and the militants to 61. Malaysian authorities said eight of the dead were police officers and the rest were militants. It is difficult to know if any were civilians because the government has restricted journalists' access to the area. The approximately 200 fighters arrived last month on Borneo and the government began air and ground strikes on Tuesday after the rebels refused entreaties by both the Philippine and Malaysian authorities to leave peacefully. |
Takbirrr." |
Peril of March 8 for PM Najib Razak Posted: 10 Mar 2013 06:33 PM PDT On the 8 March, logically the 12th parliament has ended and any government of the day should relinquish its duty and responsibility immediate to a caretaker government. A government which has not seek a new mandate after the end of its term does not have any moral ground to continue governing the country. This is a serious issue and our Election Commission should have stepped in to urge the current administration to announce a date for new elections. Granted that the government has a moratorium period to call for the next elections but it has to take the initiative to announce a date immediately after the 5-year period ends. This is a serious challenge to the EC to prove its impartiality. I hope EC chairman Abdul Aziz Mohd Yusof will seek an understanding from PM Najib Razak to set the dissolution and polling dates and announce them to the public. A failure to do so will put the independent EC in a bad light. There should be no more excuses and the ruling regime should be reminded that its right to call for dissolution is restricted and governed by the Federal Constitution. It does not own the GE. EC and political parties should respect the Federal Constitution and the rule of law which provided the GE as a mechanism for the people to exercise their democratic rights to choose the government of the day. The legitimacy of the current regime has ended on 8 March. Period. A new election has to be called if the current regime wants to safeguard its credibility. Prolonging the next GE is only going to erode the support for PM Najib. |
'My father was offered presidency in exchange for Sabah' Posted: 10 Mar 2013 06:29 PM PDT Dismissing claims of conspiracy and greed, she said the fight over Sabah is now all about principles as the death toll keeps on rising every day between the followers of Kiram and Malaysian troops – but mostly on the part of the royal army. In an interview with ABS-CBN's "Bottomline," the princess said "if this is all about money, I remember when my father was offered by someone [in the past], 'boss, just sign this [cede Sabah] and you will be next president of the Philippines. My father said, 'Pare, it's too heavy, I can't carry that.'" Jacel said that when she learned of this incident, "I got goosebumps. My father is priceless. Ang sa kanya ay prinsipyo." Criticisms continue to dog the Kiram family amid reports that many among their ranks have died in the ongoing operations of Malaysia to ease them out of Sabah. Read More / Baca Lagi >> |

SABAH SULUKS NOT TO AID RAIDERS Posted: 10 Mar 2013 06:14 PM PDT CONFERENCE.....Akjan and PEKIDA Sabah leaders at the press conference. By : SAMANTHA RAE KOTA KINABALU: Don't provide any form of assistance to the intruders from Sulu and Pekida leaders and members in Sabah have been advised. Pekida Sabah Chairman Dr Datu Mohd Akjan Datu Ali Muhammad made these remarks Sunday they should instead provide support and assistance they could to the Malaysian security forces, to prevent the intruders from slipping into other parts of the state. PEKIDA is the Malaysian Islamic Welfare and Sermon Organisation. Speaking at a news conference held in Kg Likas, Akjan reminded its 80,000 members who are mostly from the Tausug (Suluk) community that they are Malaysian citizens and therefore should always place their allegiance to Malaysia. "Our loyalty is to Malaysia and its sovereignty and therefore we should be among the first to step forward to defend the country, when she faces threats from outside. "As the Chairman of PEKIDA Sabah, I wish to reiterate that our loyalty is always with the Yang Di Pertuan Agong, our beloved King and the government of the day. "We shall go all out to protect our beloved Sabah homeland in any way we can, even if we have to sacrifice our lives," he said. Read More / Baca Lagi >> |
US Dirty Tricks? Malaysia Faces Uncertain War in Sabah Posted: 10 Mar 2013 04:50 PM PDT Tension is high in Malaysia's eastern state of Sabah following an ongoing standoff between Islamic militants from the nearby southern Philippines and Malaysian security forces. 235-armed militants landed in eastern Sabah in early February and occupied several villages in an effort to assert a centuries-old claim over the territory. Both sides accuse the other of firing the first shot, but once the stand-off produced Malaysian causalities, Malaysian security forces deployed fighter jets and launched an unprecedented air assault on the militants with five battalions of solders deployed over the area in an operation to flush out the militant group, which they termed "Operation Sovereignty". At least 52 militants have been killed, in addition to several Malaysian policemen who were reportedly mutilated by the insurgents; reports claim that militants sent an e-mail message to Malaysian authorities that included images of beheaded police officers. The insurgents identified themselves as the "Royal Sulu Army", representing the now-defunct Sulu Sultanate that controlled the territory for centuries before leasing the land to the colonial British North Borneo Company in 1878. The Manila-based Sultan of Sulu, Jamalul Kiram III, directed the insurgency, while his brother Agbimuddin Kiram led ground operations into Sabah. The Sultanate insists that Sabah is its homeland, and it will not budge on its claims over the territory even if its personnel are killed in the standoff. British colonialists leased the land from the Sultanate and eventually annexed Sabah in 1946 before turning over the disputed territory to the Federation of Malaysia in 1963. At the time, the Philippines contested the transfer, claiming that the British did not possess the authority to transfer ownership to Malaysia. The British and the Malaysian authorities responded by asking the United Nations to conduct a referendum which came to the conclusion that two-thirds of the population of Sabah favoured joining Malaysia. The Malaysian government also began paying small annual payments to the heirs of the sultanate as compensation for their cession of the land, an arrangement that has continued to the present day. Malaysia originally took a soft approach on the Filipinos militants by offering them the opportunity to lay down their arms and leave peacefully, leading many to criticize the government and security forces for allowing the militants to penetrate Malaysian territory. Local media referred to the gunmen as "intruders", but soon after the gunmen engaged security personnel in a firefight, Malaysia began referring to the group as "terrorists". Prime Minister Najib Razak authorized intense retaliatory strikes, calling for the total surrender of militants. Following the airstrikes, Sulu Sultan Jamalul Kiram III told Filipino media that he was unable to contact his brother, militant leader Agbimuddin Kiram, and that he was increasingly worried over the safety of his "royal army" in Sabah, prompting the Sultan to call for a ceasefire. Malaysian PM Najib reiterated that he would not consider any request unless the militants in Sabah turn over their arms to the Malaysian authorities and surrendered. Posted: 10 Mar 2013 04:45 PM PDT BY JESS G. DUREZA Lift Sabah food blockade Read More / Baca Lagi >>A WORD of caution to Malaysia. It should refrain from pushing the button. My recommendation is for Malaysia to lift its announced "deadline to vacate" and the food blockade imposed to scuttle the Sulu Sultanate's resolve. Extending it to a few more days won't work. It will only lead to the brink. Now that the Philippine government is grappling with the incident and has indicated that it will help handle the situation, it may be best for Malaysia to just leave the matter, for the meantime, to the Philippine side to resolve the so-called "stand off." This will need cooling-off time so deadlines won't help. I strongly suggest that Philippine backchannels, official or otherwise, must work round the clock to convince Malaysia to leave the matter to the Philippine side to resolve this. Time is of the essence. Malaysia must also be given a "graceful exit" of lifting its declared "deadline" by making it appear that it is merely acceding to a "friendly neighbor's" request. After all, this way Malaysia will pass on the onus of the problem to the Philippine side. And Filipinos, I know, will have a way of quietly resolving it in time. For the moment, this is a Filipino problem that only Filipinos can resolve. MY OWN SABAH 'ENCOUNTERS' I had my own share of "encounters" with this ticklish Sabah issue when I was with government during the administrations of then Presidents Fidel Ramos and Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo. I recall when the four countries under the BIMP EAGA (Brunei, Indonesia, Malaysia, Philippines East Asian Growth Area) were set to sign a document setting up a facilitation center to be based in Kota Kinabalu, the document hit a snag when the address of the center was written in the draft Agreement as "Kota Kinabalu, Sabah, Malaysia." The Philippine Foreign Affairs department in Padre Faura declined to affix the Philippine signature because it will indirectly accept Sabah as part of Malaysia. Again, when backchannels were suggesting that we open a Philippine consulate in Sabah ostensibly to protect the Filipinos there (due to their numbers and recurring problems), our government firmly but courteously declined. A Philippine Consular Office in Sabah can be interpreted to mean that we officially acknowledge Sabah as within Malaysian territory. |

Read More / Baca Lagi >> |
