Sarawak’s old ‘warriors’ worth only RM100 Posted: 05 Aug 2011 09:44 PM PDT Some 186 aging Sarawak Rangers and Iban Trackers, who sacrificed their lives defending the nation and whom the government has apparently forgotten are desperately needing assistance. That is the appalling situation facing several aging former Sarawak Rangers and Iban Trackers. These men spent most of their entire life away from family and friends defending the country. Briefly the Sarawak rangers were a para-military force founded in 1892. |
At 86, Mahathir is still calling the shots in Umno Posted: 05 Aug 2011 09:42 PM PDT Back in 2008, Najib Razak and Muhyiddin were only too happy and willing to help Mahathir Mohamad bring down the then prime minister Abdullah Badawi. Mahathir had made many attempts but could not hammer it through because Badawi had been smart enough to get a mandate of his own from the people, something that his successor Najib has failed to do. In 2004, Badawi who was Mahathir's anointed successor took the BN to a landlisde victory, a record 95 per cent rout that immediately sparked a jealous reaction from his former boss that too huge a dominance in Parliament was not good for the country. But Mahathir needn't have worried because in 2008, Badawi crashed. He took the BN to its worst-ever electoral performance and losing the coalition's long-held two-thirds majority in Parliament. |

Education overhaul needs ‘political will’ Posted: 05 Aug 2011 08:43 PM PDT Skeptical academics are hoping that the Education Ministry's announcement of a plan to revamp the education system is not just another 'quick' feel good 'solution'. PETALING JAYA: The bottom line to the Education Ministry's ambitious plan to overhaul the education system is 'political will' and whether the ruling Barisan Nasional government, which is poised to face a general election sometime soon, is ready to risk it.Academics here are fervently hoping that the ministry's latest bid is not just another "quick solution" to cull favour and blanket the deepening problems plaguing the education system in the country. According to them, any plan or study into the problem would be pointless if there was a lack of "political will" to implement the suggestions. |
Posted: 05 Aug 2011 08:42 PM PDT Pakatan Rakyat is aware of Tengku Razaleigh Hamzah's 'fanatical devotion' to Umno's founding principles and know that he is 'unlikely to abandon Umno'. The most practical thing Umno can do if it thinks Tengku Razaleigh Hamzah is plotting some palace coup to overthrow the 'emperor without clothes', is to sack him from Umno. I repeat sack him. Afterall Umno, the party which member of parliament Zahrain Hashim- who 'received' enlightenment and was delivered from the dark side into the loving embrace of Barisan Nasional- supports appears to have ignored the veteran and influential leader. So if Razaleigh forms an organization of like-minded individuals to operate, why should Umno and Zahrain be unduly disturbed? |
Chinatown traders cry foul over shock MRT acquisition notice Posted: 05 Aug 2011 08:39 PM PDT KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 6 — Read More / Baca Lagi >>Shop owners and traders in Chinatown are reeling from shock as a number of them received land acquisition notices over the course of this week, despite being assured previously that Chinatown will not be affected by the Klang Valley MRT (KLMRT) project. However, Land Public Transport Commission (SPAD) chief development officer Azmi Abdul Aziz has pointed out that the number of properties to be acquired to make way for the multibillion ringgit rail project had been reduced by 50 per cent. He explained that 70 per cent of the 51km line would now occupy road reserves while the remaining 30 per cent would encroach into private properties. "We have made an agreement with the parties involved and they have accepted that the line will cut through their property," he had said. |

Election candidates must be healthy - Gerakan Youth Posted: 05 Aug 2011 06:35 PM PDT KUALA LUMPUR - Having good leadership skills and being popular will not be enough for Gerakan Youth members to be prospective candidates in the next general election. "Before we put forth their names to the party leadership, they'll be filtered in those three areas (leadership, popularity and health)," he told reporters here. |
Street Protests: Anwar Ibrahim's Trademark Posted: 05 Aug 2011 06:33 PM PDT By Haider Yutim, Malaysian Digest The aftershocks of Bersih 2.0 have taken a toll on the Barisan Nasional (BN) government, tottering the pillars of its regime and affecting the general view of Malaysian politics from afar. Street demonstrations/riots have never turned out well for Malaysians. A good number of Malaysians still remember the street riots that cost lots of lives in 1969. The outcome of the recent riot has tarnished Malaysia's reputation especially with the biased reporting by foreign mainstream media. But this is just the beginning Opposition leader Anwar Ibrahim. Read More / Baca Lagi >> |

KENAPA KURMA ISRAEL ..... APCO@UMNO PUNYA PASAL ! |
Posted: 05 Aug 2011 03:35 PM PDT By Masterwordsmith This would have been a non-issue from the start had mutual respect and tolerance been practised. Despite the delicate situation, a few leaders continued to flex their muscles to intimidate and to fan the flames of fear raging then. Subsequently, an inter-faith dialogue was held but what has that achieved besides the usual pathetic and token attempts to white-wash issues? In 1986, the government ban on the use by non-Muslims of the word "Allah", and three others — "solat", "Kaabah" and "Baitullah". By 2009, the High Court allowed the church to use the word, but an appeal from the Home Ministry has left the decision hanging. Post "Allah" controversy, a few churches and a Catholic school were torched and threatened in January last year. Read More / Baca Lagi >> |
