Ibrahim Ali: Road-blocks stopped us from getting to anti-Bersih rally ..ha..ha..ha....

Ibrahim Ali: Road-blocks stopped us from getting to anti-Bersih rallySome 50,000 people slipped through police road blocks on July 9, entering the city to join in Bersih's protests for electoral reforms - but Perkasa's supporters who spent the Saturday at home said road blocks had prevented them from entering the city to hold their much-publicised 'counter gathering'.

The pro-UMNO group's chief Ibrahim Ali, who had wanted to disrupt the massive rally including raising the spectre of violence and a racial riot, had disappeared from the public after weeks of threats over the media that his group would hold a raly to counter Bersih's.

A day before the rally, however, Ibrahim had instructed his supporters to "stroll at Lake Titiwangsa in an attempt to show Perkasa's presence during the eventful day.

Rakyat harap pada siapa untuk tegak keadilan

Posted: 25 Jul 2011 09:06 PM PDT

KUALA LUMPUR, July 26 — The National Fatwa Council has ruled that Barbican's non-alcoholic beer is consumable for Muslims. The council was of the opinion the drink was not processed to make it alcoholic, and the low alcohol content in it was incidental and not intoxicating, according to Bernama Online.
National Fatwa Council chairman, Prof Emeritus Tan Sri Dr Abdul Shukor Husin, told a news conference yesterday therefore it was line with previous discussions in 1984, 1987, 1988 and 2010.
The council's last discussion — held between June 16 and June 18 — mulled over alcohol content in food, drinks and medicines.
Abdul Shukor however advised the brewer to better label the product so that Muslims are not confused.
He was at Al-Muqarrabin Mosque in Bandar Tasek Selatan to attend the launch of the national-level Ihya' Ramadan programme by Minister in the Prime Minister's Department Datuk Seri Jamil Khir Baharom.

Hak Raja Berperlembagaan

Raja Dr Nazrin Shah Ibni Sultan Azlan Muhibbuddin Shah

Emergency law and demonisation of socialists in M'sia

Posted: 25 Jul 2011 08:59 PM PDT

Emergency law and demonisation of socialists in M'siaThe incarceration of the six leaders of Parti Sosialis Malaysia (PSM) under the Emergency Ordinance, yet another detention-without-trial law in Malaysia and the attempt by the ruling Barisan Nasional (BN) government to justify this using the age-old "communist bogey" has exposed its bankruptcy of ideas. In replaying the old gramophone, the ruling coalition has unwittingly laid bare their demonization of socialists since the early days of Independence when socialists were the main threat to their hold on political power.
My new book entitled "Patriots & Pretenders: The Malayan Independence Struggle" (due in the next few months) attempts to give a Malaysian people's history of this period. It will show Malaysians who have thus far not have access to these facts about our history that the present regime has clung to power this long only through authoritarian laws allowing detention without trial and demonizing socialists through the state-controlled media.

Dr Chandar Sesekali Perlu Turun Dari Kerusi Roda

Posted: 25 Jul 2011 08:58 PM PDT

Yes, it's true: GE-13 finally around the corner!

Posted: 25 Jul 2011 08:56 PM PDT

Yes, it's true: GE-13 finally around the corner! There are reasons to believe that the general election is around the corner. Although the government may put if off until 2012-2013, the signs are now unmistakable that it will go ahead sooner, rather than later.
Already delayed since Mar 2011 as a hesitant BN government, unable to gauge BN support contemplates their next move, it simply cannot be put off any longer. In fact, UMNO and MCA had last year postponed their internal elections, sparking speculation of a snap GE-13, so it is surprising that it has continued to drag on for so long.
Najib is on the ground campaigning, and so are the rest of UMNO. While they know the date of the election, the Pakatan Rakyat is still in the dark. An early General Election will also avoid any changes to the electoral system demanded by Bersih – a coalition for free and fair elections - and supported by many influential international watchdog bodies including the UN.

Beyond the Bersih rally

Posted: 25 Jul 2011 08:55 PM PDT

Mavis Puthucheary

JULY 26 — I suspect that most of us who attended the Bersih rally on July 9th were glad we made the effort. It was a defiant message to the authorities that Malaysians are now better informed and not easily cowed by threats.
Like many first-time marchers I was there not only because I felt strongly about the importance of the Bersih call for free and fair elections but also because, like many others, I was appalled and disgusted at the run-around that the organizers were subjected to by the government.
Divisions and conflicts that are often experienced in everyday life were put aside as Malaysians from all walks of life came together to confront the police as they lined up on the road with guns pointing at the very people they were supposed to protect.  The sudden roar of motor-cycles as they whizzed past us were from post office personnel who had also joined the police in the showdown. As a public show of togetherness in the face of a common enemy, the rally was a great success.

Persaingan Melayu untungkan rakyat

Posted: 25 Jul 2011 08:53 PM PDT

Malahan, Jun tahun lalu, Ketua Penerangan Umno Datuk Ahmad Maslan dilaporkan berkata:

Bersih: Geli hati Rais suruh tengok video polis

The US and Malaysia's political awakening

Posted: 25 Jul 2011 08:49 PM PDT

INTERVIEW WITH JOHN MALOTT: The US and Malaysia's political awakeningThe July 9 Bersih 2.0 rally for free and fair elections is a landmark event in more ways than one. Not only has it galvanized many Malaysians into action against a system that has long been described as decaying, eaten to the bone by corruption and abuse of power, it has also made many in the influential First World wonder about the political leadership and future of the country.
One such person is John Malott, a former US ambassador to Malaysia, who is still widely regarded for his knowledge of the country and its political dynamics. In the wake of the Bersih rally, he was asked for his assessment by a think-tank East-West Center established by the US Congress, and he offered his opinion in an analysis entitled Malaysia's Political Awakening: A Call to US Leadership.

Soon in September: Third person in Scorpene scandal to be named

Soon in September: Third person in Scorpene scandal to be namedDetails of a 'third commission' in the controversial purchase of Scorpene submarines, said to have been paid to a high-ranking Malaysian government officer, is set to be revealed when a corruption trial involving the French arms supplier begins in France this September.
Cynthia Gabriel of rights group Suaram, who is spearhering efforts to compile facts and bring the matter to French courts under its "Ops Scorpene" project, recently revealed new evidence that a third commission, allegedly bigger than the first two commissions paid to Perimekar Sdn Bhd at RM540 million, PKR's online organ KeadilanDaily reported.
Perimekar is fully owned by Ombak Laut, a company owned by Abdul Razak Baginda, the aide to prime minister Najib Razak who was charged of abetting in the brutal murder of Mongolian Altantuya Shariibu.
Explosive details linking the murder to Najib had been given in a statutory declaration by Abdul Razak's private investigator P Balasubramaniam, saying the duo had both been romantically involved with Altantuya, who had assisted in the purchase negotiation of the submarines.

Umno moneyspinner: Eurofighter at RM3bil each is 8 times listed price

Umno moneyspinner: Eurofighter at RM3bil each is 8 times listed price
The Russian-made MIGs were meant to last a long period of time under the harshest of conditions so it is odd that the Malaysian military has chosen to replace them after only 10 years of service.
A statement by the Minister of Defence Ahmad Zahid Hamidi that they were planning to replace the 10 MIGs with the Eurofighter Typhoon because the Eurofighter was a multi-role combat aircraft sounds rosy and nice until you look into the details of the aircraft which were conveniently left out of the picture.
It is also rather presumptuous of the defense minister to simply say Malaysia will consider purchasing new hardware at a time when the country should be looking at keeping its expenditures low and returning more money into the hands of its citizens.

Ethics and the Election Commission

Bersih's Wong Chin Huat says the proposed biometrics voting system is open to abuse because of the EC's sullied reputation.

PETALING JAYA: A key member of Bersih 2.0′s steering committee said he does not trust the biometric voting system proposed by Election Commission (EC) because of the latter's poor reputation.
Wong Chin Huat said: "I don't trust the biometric system because I don't believe the EC has the competence and integrity to prevent rigging and other abuses.
"Does the EC have the competency to maintain the system and also to detect or eliminate hacking by an external party?" asked Chin Huat.
A political scientist, Chin Huat, drew an analogy to the public using an online system to do their banking transactions to the biometric system.

General Election: Umno leaders say they are ready

General Election: Umno leaders say they are readyLike just waiting for the switch to be on, several Umno division leaders have stated their preparedness if the government decides to hold the general election very soon.
Their preparedness is the result of the general election simulation exercise held at the divisional level from June until this month, besides the general preparations made in facing the 13th general election.
The simulation exercise had identified the voters, the potential winnable candidates and the party's general election committees who are now prepared to face the real elections.
Seri Gading Umno division chief Datuk Mohamed Aziz said the simulation exercise was to refresh the minds of the election workers from the party and to reactivate the election machinery in facing the real situation.
"It's good to have the simulation exercise though we've always been and must always be prepared. We should not take things lightly, definitely not the general election," he said when contacted by Bernama.

Umno – Kesuntukan masa untuk berubah

Posted: 25 Jul 2011 09:44 AM PDT

Aspan Alias
