Jangan percaya 'senyuman beracun' Najib
Hazayani Zakaria

Utuk memastikan Umno BN kekal berkuasa, mereka memainkan isu perkauman melalui akhbar milik mereka, Utusan Malaysia.

Scorpenes: Zahid says may testify in Paris, new link to Najib?
Written by Wong Choon Mei, Malaysia Chronicle

In a telling caveat and amid swirling speculation of a new and potential link to Prime Minister Najib Razak, defence minister Zahid Hamidi said he was willing to go to France and testify about Najib's purchase of 3 submarines, but only if the Malaysian Cabinet gave the green light.

"If the Cabinet doesn't allow it, then I don't have to go," Zahid told reporters on Sunday.

In 2002, when Najib was the defense minister, he had sanctioned the purchase of 2 Scorpenes and one Agosta for some RM6.7 billion. Even back then, his proposal was panned by environmentalists and rights groups who argued the subs were unsuitable for Malaysia's rocky and shallow coastline.

There was also public anger at what appeared to be an overbloated purchase price, with consumer groups demanding that the money be channelled into projects that benefited the masses more tangibly and directly.

Later on, when news leaked that a firm connected to Najib's close friend - Razak Baginda - had been granted a side deal worth 114 million euros or around RM500 million, there were immediate demands for a full probe into the case.

Bunt until today, despite the numerous reports lodged with the police and Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commision, there has not been any probe initiated against Najib. The allegations against him are that he abused his power and corruptly received kickbacks from the French vendor DCNS.

Press conference on Monday, new link to Najib?

This Malaysian authorities' refusal to act prompted the country's largest civil rights group, SUARAM, to file a lawsuit against DCNS in Paris in December 2009. Under French law, if found guilty of corruptly soliciting or inducing a deal, DCNS can be ordered to pay back the victims, which in this case would be the taxpayers of Malaysia.

After more than a year of investigation by the French financial police, the case is due to be heard in open court in Paris soon. SUARAM's lawyer Jon Breham and team are scheduled to arrive in Kuala Lumpur in July to brief their client and other interested citizens' group ahead of the hearing.

"We will release the information to the public as and when we receive the news from our lawyers," SUARAM director Cynthia Gabriel told Malaysia Chronicle.

She declined to give further information but the NGO is scheduled to hold a press conference at 11am on Monday to inform the media of Breham's schedule.

It is likely when Breham arrives, he may be able to give details on what recent investigations in France have uncovered, and this includes a third person who had often travelled to Paris with Baginda and Altantuya.

All eyes will be on the identity of this person, who may turn out to be a new link to Najib.

Calls for Najib to resign

The subs case has always been a time bomb for Najib, who may be involved in more ways than one. Not surprisingly, there have been many calls for him to resign and spare the country's image and reputation.

Information, especially on the pricing and his personal dealings in the transaction could prove to be a major embarrasment for the BN government and country.

Already, there is sniggering in the foreign diplomatic community that Malaysians have to go all the way to Paris to seek justice against their own leader. Sad to say, despite constant grilling by opposition politicians here, even at Parliament level, the Najib administration has refused to provide the vital information needed to unravel the complex case.

Tragically woven into the subs story is the murder of a Mongolian translator, Altantuya Shaariibuu, who was killed by two of Najib's former bodyguards. The beautiful 28-year old was shot twice in the face and then exploded with military-grade C4 explosives to prevent identification. Allegations have surfaced that she was pregnant, and had been mistress to both Baginda and Najib himself.

Apparently, she had come to Malaysia to collect her US$500,000 share of the commission paid by DCNS. According to private investigator P Balasubramaniam, who was working for Baginda, it was Najib's wife Rosmah Mansor who refused to allow the men to pay her a sen.

Both bodyguards have since been sentenced to hang and are waiting on death row. But till now, Malaysians believed they were ordered to murder her as neither of them had any motive to do so. One of the two cops has allegedly told the police he was paid RM100,000 to kill her, but the information was suppressed.

The Paris court case will not touch on the murder but will surely investigate Altantuya's role in the submarines acquisition. Her link puts the spotlight squarely back on Najib, forcing him to answer questionss that he has refused to do so in Malaysia.

Although, he can ignore the Paris trial, not just Malaysians but the entire global community will suspect the worst of him for shirking questions that as a leader espousing transparency, he should jump at the chance to answer.

If Najib was innocent, surely he would extend his fullest co-operation to the French courts, pundits told Malaysia Chronicle. If not, he should resign before he disgraces the country further, they added.

Ibrahim Ali @ Perkosa tak nak Mat Sabu Jadi Timbalan Presiden PAS...!!

Posted: 28 May 2011 11:57 PM PDT

Fate of PAS down to party polls, says Ibrahim Ali

KUALA LUMPUR, May 29 — The upcoming PAS election will be the party's last chance to return to the Islamic roots it sacrificed for political gain, Perkasa president Datuk Ibrahim Ali has said.

He said while the PAS of old used to champion Islam, regardless of whether it did well in general elections, the party was now willing to do anything to win whatever the consequences.

Ibrahim (picture) said such a strategy would be acceptable if PAS was the dominant party in Pakatan Rakyat (PR) but pointed out that, unlike Umno in Barisan Nasional (BN), PAS was not the senior partner in the opposition pact.

He said that when PAS raised issues relating to Islam, DAP would chastise them openly but when the latter touched on Muslim sensitivities, PAS maintained a "deafening silence".

"The PAS election this time around will determine if... PAS remains an Islamist party in name only and Islam becomes a purely political currency to ensure PAS candidates win," he said in a statement today.

Ibrahim predicted that vice president Datuk Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man would win the deputy presidency as fellow candidate Mohamad Sabu and incumbent Nasrudin Hassan did not fit into PAS's plan to secure seats at any cost.

Ibrahim said this was because Nasrudin was seen as overly supportive of Umno-PAS unity efforts while Mohamad, better known as Mat Sabu, appeared unwilling to "wage jihad" for opposition leader Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.

Similarly, the Pasir Mas MP claimed that Nik Amar's candidacy was an attempt to stop Husam Musa, a "lone ranger" from the professional Erdogan faction, from becoming vice president.

"Only DAP and Anwar will benefit... Hardcore PAS supporters who sincerely wish to fight for Islam do not know this. I pity them," Ibrahim added.

Six candidates will contest the three PAS vice presidential spots in the Islamist party's upcoming elections.

This is the first time that three candidates from Kelantan will be vying for the posts. The polls will be held in June.
