| PAP loses Aljunied to Workers’ Party in Singapore elections Posted: 07 May 2011 09:10 AM PDT SINGAPORE, May 7 – The opposition Workers' Party (WP) is said to have wrested the hotly-contested Aljunied GRC from the PAP. The report comes from the Singapore Straits Times which quoted Cynthia Phua of the PAP's Aljunied team that lost to the Workers' Party. WP supporters at Hougang Stadium were said to have erupted into cheers as word came through that the party has won in Hougang. The Workers' Party team in Aljunied GRC has been nicknamed by political watchers as the "A Team" of the opposition party. In 2006, the WP lost Aljunied to the PAP. WP then got 43.91 per cent of the votes while PAP won 56.09 per cent. |
