Remember our seamen this Hari Raya

THIS Hari Raya let us not forget Malaysian seamen who serve on our merchant fleet. many are away from their families for long period of time, working in a very chalengging environment. Remember them, their sacrifice and contribution to the nation's trade and wealth.

Most Malaysian seamen are untypical of the image of sailors of many years ago. Many love God, family and nation and very often their lives are at risk as thet sail through the high seas and pirate infested waters.

Work demand on board and the present global security environment make getting shore leave a luxury. Except for a few good companies, many treat their seamen as contractual staff with no guarantee of further employment.

There is also that uniqueness on Malysia ships where people of different religions and races work and live together peacefully.

So in conjuction with this Hari raya and the coming World maritime Day, can we all pour a drink and serve kuih raya, ketupat daun palas or lemang with rendang tok to the seamen who are on leave.
