Electricity tariffs to fall 1.7% for 1Q 2014 on cheaper natural gas: SP

ELECTRICITY tariffs will decrease by an average of 1.7 per cent or 0.43 cent per kWh for the period from 1 Jan to 31 Mar 2014, SP Services Limited said on Monday.

The tariff reduction is due to the lower cost of natural gas used for electricity generation, which fell by 2.6 per cent compared to the previous quarter.

The electricity tariff for households will decrease from 26.08 to 25.65 cents per kWh in Q1 2014.

SP Services reviews the electricity tariffs quarterly based on guidelines set by the Energy Market Authority (EMA), the electricity industry regulator.
