What is the name of this town?

Posted: 25 Aug 2011 09:05 PM PDT

I was reading the Hilary McKay books and I was wondering where they took place. I knew that it must say where in one of the books but I returned them to the library and someone else already checked them out. It's a one hour train ride from london or there about. It's also about 5 hours from the border of Italy. At least I think so.

Answer on What is the name of this town?

Hilary McKay wrote The Casson Family Books (5), The Exiles (3) and The Porridge Hall books (3). It would help to know which set you were referring to. If it was last one, the title is where the Casson's lived or Porridge Hall. She also wrote The Paradise House books, The Pudding Bag School books and several children's books.

That's the best I can do for you at this moment.

Additional details:

Although no mention of the town is mentioned in the Casson Series, I found this on the web at the following site for you which will help to confirm my hypothesis. http://goodtoread.org/whatsnew/casson-fa…

"All we know of the Cassons is that they live a train ride away from London where Bill lives, and close enough to sheep-farming countryside that Saffy's boyfriend can leave her and Rose stranded on a hillside when his car breaks down. Why does this matter? Because the majority of youth stories are city-based (possibly because the majority of youth authors are city-based). And city children and city families are somewhat sharper and less tolerant than their more rural counterparts. The Cassons are hardly yokels but neither are they entirely urban. Their edges seem softened in direct contrast, for example, to their father's more metropolitan outlook."

Again my regards,
