KUALA LUMPUR: The collapse of a concrete embankment in Bukit Setiawangsa due to land erosion has resulted in the residents of 41 houses being evacuated.
Puncak Setiawangsa residents association assistant chairman Fauziah Jamaluddin said only homes and shoplots opposite the site would be affected.
"Other houses in the area are not affected, people can go home and move around freely," she told reporters at the scene.
She also said that Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) would be making an alternative route for residents to move in and out to east congestion as the road needed to be closed.
DBKL has also prepared the community centre for residents to stay in, and will also provide food.
However, the Public Works Department (JKR) are still monitoring the situation, and getting heavy vehicles to the site will be difficult.
As of 12.30pm, the soil in the area was still classified as very loose and unsafe.
Currently, 40 personnel from the Fire and Rescue Department, the Malaysian Civil Defence Department (JPAM), DBKL, Rela volunteers, and JKR are gathered at the area.
According to the authorities present, the vacated residents are staying with other family members.
Eight luxury bungalows near the collapsed barrier have been extensively damaged, with one house being split into two.
Nazrin Norzali, who lives three houses away from the embankment, said the split house belonged to an Iraqi family which had vacated several days before the incident upon noticing cracks in their home.
The concrete barrier crumbled at 10pm Friday night and buried the only access road from Taman Puncak Setiawangsa.
Businessperson Deepak Jaikishan today admitted that he has sold his estranged company Astacanggih Sdn Bhd for RM30 million to a Defence Ministry agency, claiming that he was forced into the deal.
He said the deal was only to cover the money he had spent in a land deal with Awan Megah (M) Sdn Bhd that turned sour, and had grudgingly gone through with it despite being denied the lands promised to him.
"It is true that my shareholders and me have sold our shares in Asta Canggih for RM30 million which is our actual cost price of RM13 million for Raja Ropiaah, RM8 million in political contributions, RM7 million of financial costs and RM2 million in legal and miscellaneous costs.
"This was an ultimatum that was forced upon us," he said in a text message today, but did not mention names.
The statement today comes after Boustead Holding Bhd, the investment vehicle of Lembaga Tabung Angkatan Tentera (LTAT), an agency under the Defence Ministry, announced on Bursa Malaysia that it will be acquiring an 80 percent stake in Astacanggih Sdn Bhd, which was owned by Deepak.
Abrupt move to withdraw lawsuit
Boustead Holdings Bhd, which purchased the stake through its wholly-owned subsidiary Bakti Wira Development Sdn Bhd, said it will also acquire 80.94 hectares of freehold land in Klang from Awan Megah (M) Sdn Bhd for RM130 million.
This coincided with Deepak's abrupt move to withdraw his lawsuit against Selangor Umno Wanita chief Raja Ropiaah Abdullah and her company Awan Megah (M) Sdn Bhd, yesterday for the same piece of land.
"The irony is that Raja Ropiaah who 'stole' the land from us was paid RM130 million, guess that is real power, isn't it?" he said.
Awan Megah (M) Sdn Bhd was tasked by the government to construct the National Defence Research Centre (Puspahanas) in Putrajaya for which the Defence Ministry would pay the company RM27 million and 223 acres or 90.24ha of land in Klang worth RM72.5 million.
However, after they were unable to obtain a land bond for the building's construction, the company had engaged Deepak's Astacanggih Sdn Bhd for help.
Deepak had claimed that in this deal, his company Astacanggih Sdn Bhd would issue a RM72.5 million land bond on behalf of Awan Megah (M) Sdn Bhd.
It will also give Awan Megah (M) Sdn Bhd an additional RM23 million, RM13 million of which was already paid, in exchange for 200 acres or 80.94ha of the land which the latter will receive from the Defence Ministry. Awan Megah (M) Sdn Bhd will keep the remaining 23 acres or 9.3ha of the land.
However, the deal became sour after Deepak claimed that the latter had not upheld her end of the deal.
'Mindef buying up own land'
As LTAT is a unit under the Defence Ministry (Mindef), Deepak pointed out that the latest deal meant that the Defence Ministry was effectively buying back its own land which it gave to Raja Ropiaah at an inflated rate.
"LTAT, ironically, bought their own land which they had given to Raja Ropiaah (for Puspahanas) for RM72.5 million at RM130 million, giving Raja Ropiaah a profit of RM57.5 million plus RM13 million from us… and remaining 23 acres worth RM40 million (which it still has).
"The losers are the Defence Ministry and army officers who get cheated by Umno and cheated again by having to buy back the military land at double the price they gave it away for.
"Looks like Defence Minister Zahid Hamidi (above) has become Santa Claus," he said.

Macam budak sekolah sedang menunggu keputusan SPM ( Itu pun kalau ambil peperiksaan SPM ).

The Government of a nation itself is usually found to be but the reflex of the individuals composing it. The Government that is ahead of the people will inevitably be dragged down to their level, as the Government that is behind them will in the long run be dragged up. In the order of nature, the collective character of a nation will as surely find its befitting results in its law and government, as water finds its own level. The noble people will be nobly ruled, and the ignorant and corrupt ignobly. Indeed all experience serves to prove that the worth and strength of a State depend far less upon the form of its institutions than upon the character of its men. For the nation is only an aggregate of individual conditions, and civilization itself is but a question of the personal improvement of the men, women, and children of whom society is composed.
Samuel smiles wrote the above. Every leader of any nation has grappled with the issue. What is the secret ingredient of a good government? Samuel Smiles had the answer- the secret of good government is having good people heading it. Lee Kuan Yew tackled this issue a long time ago, and set out to cultivate good people to lead the Singapore government. He must have done something right, because Singapore is now the richest country in the world.
North of the causeway, the UMNO leader who ruled for 22 years as PM and many years as Minister and Deputy PM, must have done something wrong. Our country is getting top placing for the wrong reasons. Mahathir has admitted his failure to improve the Malays, yet the Malays still want to support him? Mahathir has admitted that after 55 years, Malays are still beggars in their own country; Malays are urged to continue supporting UMNO? Are Malays political masochists? You get high as you are abused more. You want people molded after Mahathir's image to come back and lead us so that they can whip us further to get us high?
The call by the UMNO Youth leader for The Edge to retract their story about "May 13" is laughable when FINAS is just about to release their much trumpeted film Tanda Putera which is aimed at reinforcing UMNO's version of the incident. The director of the film has said as much, that the film is aimed at contradicting the thesis of my 2007 title that the racial violence was a veiled coup detat by the emergent state capitalists in UMNO against the aristocrats under the Tunku. The continued postponement of the film's release is as perplexing as the continued postponement of the appeal by the two men sentenced for the murder of the Mongolian lass, Altantuya. Is the government apprehensive about the negative reaction many Malaysians will have toward the film? Has the Special Branch already submitted their intelligence to the government, warning them that this tired old official version of May 13 would only serve to enhance anti-UMNO voting behavior? The continued postponement for the release of this film is a smack in the face of the film director who appears to have little, if any, artistic freedom in the project at all and who at the same time, seems content to be a compliant accomplice in this historical cover-up. WANT THE TRUTH? OPEN THE SPECIAL BRANCH FILES Much has been made by non-academic UMNO hacks that my 2007 title relied on declassified documents from (foreign) British sources, as if researchers are incapable of separating the facts from fiction. Malaysian historians, whether they are the official apologists or the more radical, know that the British were more inclined toward supporting UMNO and the Alliance than the communists or the opposition as part of the neo-colonialist solution at Independence. In fact, in the book I pointed out the hypocrisy of the British in justifying an arms deal for the Home Guard when the outside world was condemning the racial violence and the partiality of the Malaysian security forces. Still, these documents reveal the innermost thoughts of the British officials and their own intelligence. They are the equivalent of the Wikileaks that have been made available to us to read today.
It is usually at festive seasons for over the last few years that more and more Malaysians believe that their Quality of Life and the Malaysian way of life that they savor and which is so familiar to them is beginning to come under threat due to the sloppy, inept and corrupt governance of Barisan Nasional (BN). There are now a number of factors that are appearing to threaten the Malaysian way of life and Malaysians are fed up and exasperated and have virtually given up hope on the BN government to put things right for them. And Malaysians fully deserve to be up in arms with the BN government as it has been "no show" as far as they are concerned as the government has failed to address very severe and critical issues which are a daily worry and concern to Malaysians. The BN government's stubborn resistance in trying to solve these pressing issues is due to the "corrupt inefficiency" of government machinery, and instead, the BN government seems to want to put the blame on opposition parties for their own lack of political will in solving these problems and issues. Chaotic and confusing transport woes Every festive season and during the year-end school holidays, Malaysians are witness to horrendous traffic jams and congestions, even in far away and remote corners of the country, and this is a really baffling situation, which clearly shows that the BN government has really little control or has probably lost control over what is happening in the country. The problems of mobility or the many and varied transport problems which Malaysians face despite owning luxury cars and vehicles is the most clearest indication in the country that all is not well with the governance of our country. In trying to solve the problem the easy and lazy way, the BN government has put into place measures that can be considered as done "according to their whims and fancies" rather than taking a good, hard look at the situation and coming up with lasting solutions that will ease greatly the burden on the people. For some people, these traffic and transport problems may be the butt of jokes, but most Malaysians are angry and greatly frustrated and it is no laughing matter for them as they feel that the only way these perennial problems can be solved is to boot the BN government out of office. Whatever has gone wrong to cause our traffic dispersal schemes to go haywire, the burden of responsibility should be rightfully shouldered by the BN government and they should not try to wiggle their way out of being accountable. The problems of transportation in this country have become a severe crisis that has also threatened to jeopardize the economy and cause the daily problems of Malaysians to multiply and create even more suffering. Going, going and going up, up and away
To stop concerted attempts to break up the opposition coalition, Pakatan leaders must decide once and for all who should lead, and it's obvious who the candidate is.
Amidst the display of greed among some opposition members on the issue of the next Prime Minister of Malaysia, it is certain that the man to lead Pakatan Rakyat (PR) in the elections should be its most popular figure. There is little doubt who the man is who can lead the country towards the path for change. The thorns in the flanks of Pakatan, however, are not its political enemies but the leader's nemesis who are acting as 'resident evils'. Several Pakatan members launched a controversial debate on who should lead PR after the 13th general election, ignoring the wishes of the people on the ground. In the past weeks, PR has generated the expected large crowds in its recent rallies. Will PAS or DAP leaders come forward and tell the public that it is them and not Anwar Ibrahim who is behind this surge in support? If people are flocking to the rallies to listen to Pakatan, it due to the maestro of PKR who is the major crowd puller. If shamelessness has no borders and limits, then we will surely see some of trouble makers coming forward to claim they are the ones behind the massive support PR is generating! However, the rise in tempo against Anwar's leadership in PR is a not a simple ploy by some greedy people to do a 'coup d'etat' in the coalition. The whole episode has to do with a lack of certainty on the position of Anwar within PR itself. Read More / Baca Lagi >>
The whole atmosphere in Umno is extremely venomous and Najib may be asked to step down after the general election unless BN can regain its 2/3 majority.
Just when everyone was thinking that the political activity has gone down a notch or two during this end of the year holiday season, word is going around that Prime Minister Najib Tun Razak may be forced to hold the 13th general election before the Water Snake Chinese Lunar New Year which begins on Feb 10. No one knows exactly what is going on in Umno because there is much cloak-and-dagger stuff in their wheeling and dealing. However, if this talk is true, then the polls will have to be held only in early February as January does not favour BN because it is a very busy month due to it being the first month of the new school year and the teachers who are members of political parties will have no time to hit the campaign trail. Therefore only the first weekend of February is available. Be that as it may, polls within the first three months after the Chinese Lunar New Year may lessen the Chinese votes because the Chinese who are working in Singapore (and there are many of them) will only utilise their leave for returning to their hometown during the two-week Chinese Lunar New Year period. Therefore this strategy can serve to lessen Chinese participation in the general election. Read More / Baca Lagi >>
Vowing to defend the Armed Forces pension fund, Opposition Leader Anwar Ibrahim's PKR party has demanded that the Najib administration come clean on a RM160million deal to buy back land belonging to the Ministry of Defence. The PKR response follows news a day ago that a unit of the Armed Forces' pension fund (LTAT) had agreed to pay RM30 million to a controversial businessman Deepak Jaikishan and RM130 million to a firm controlled by Raja Ropiaah, the Selangor Umno Women's chief. PKR strategic director Rafizi Ramli accused Prime Minister Najib Razak and Defense Minister Zahid Hamidi of "gross abuse of power", describing the latest transaction involving 223 hectares of Defense ministry land in Bukit Raja, Selangor as "outright bribery" and the "worst-ever case of bad investment I have seen". "It is plain and simple that the RM30million to acquire 80% of Astacanggih (Deepak's firm) and the RM130 million paid (to Raja Ropiaah's firm) for almost non-existent land is clear abuse of power by Zahid Hamidi. I dare say that Najib had tasked Zahid to handle this whatever means necvessar," Rafizi, a UK-trained auditor, told a press conference on Saturday.
"You can ask any investment analyst and they will tell you this is not good investment practise. So why does the federal government enter into such a bad investment. One can only conclude this is meant to silence Deepak and to close the entire issue." Protect pension fund of Armed Forces

Sepatutnya percuma tapi kena bayar. Pasang tayar pun dia caj kita. Kadang-kadang bengkel kata tayar tak ada.
"Kalau kata bantuan penuh jangan kasi keluar duit dari poket kita lah," katanya. Read More / Baca Lagi >>
